Thanks for this article. I started out agreeing with your premise (that carbon taxes aren't sufficient and there are complex reasons why we don't tax carbon), but found myself disagreeing after reading and thinking about your arguments. You've now convinced me that carbon taxes would eliminate carbon emissions, effect systemic change, and change individual behavior. And the simple reason we don't tax carbon is that it is politically unpopular. Politicians who propose a carbon tax lose elections, because people don't want to pay higher taxes. Thanks again for helping me clarify my thinking on this issue -- it's not as complicated as I was making it out to be!
